Looks like Canadians are headed down exactly the same road as of Monday. It’s full steam ahead! No sense letting pesky things like research and facts get in the way…. including the fact that Canada’s crime rate continues to fall each year.

This whole thing sickens me. It’s ALL politics & no thought or concern for the people of this country & the effects it will have on them & not just the person who is incarcerated but the effect on spouses & children & extended family as well. What kind of society are we looking for here?
As I said, it’s all for politics – vote getting, optics. Nasty, nasty, nasty. I wish Dion was back. Now HE has integrity!

I had fully intended to vote Liberal at the first available opportunity. This has all changed.
How is it that the people of this great nation have more sense than our elected officials?
This will be a blow to the Liberals when a federal election is called.
We do not want to repeat the mistakes of the American government.
As families from every region of Canada watch their childen get herded off to prison, the anger will be felt.
What a stupid, insane, cowardly way for Ignatieff to introduce himself to Canadians.
I will be voting for the NDP.
They were the only ones in the house to understand the facts and worked so hard to fight this horrible Bill. Shame on the Liberals.
100’s of millions will be spent to imprison honest Canadians for something the country obviously wants to see at the very least decriminalized, and all during the worst recession we have seen in decades.
I am sickened.

I can understand how you feel Penlan and Denise. Not sure I want Dion back but if I had known this was Ignatieff’s position on the issue I would not have supported him for leader. I like to think Liberals can figure this out in the end. I am still voting Liberal though. I dislike Harper’s governance far more than anything else at this point.
